Hello Interweb Friends! I am April, but here on the internet
everyone knows me as Short. I love
gaming, Disney, and I'm disabled. I have
been disabled my whole life. I have Spinal Muscular Atrophy.
I live in small town Tennessee but if I could live anywhere
I think I would choose Florida. Did I
mention I love Disney world? It’s a very
freeing experience just being there. I
love to blog. I blame the movie “Julie
and Julia” for starting my blogging interest.
There’s just something about people across the Internet sharing stories,
tips, etc. that I think is pretty
special.
The story of this blog is pretty simple. As I said, I love gaming! I started when I was little, we back in the
day, and has continued throughout all my life.
The more my disability progressed, the more I chose to stay home and
play games. I joined World of Warcraft
in 2007. I was amazed at how massive of
the world it was and how deep the social bonds you make there are. World of Warcraft is also to thank for why
everyone knows me as Short.
I’ve found so much freedom in the game that, thanks to the
encouragement of friends, in 2013 I started a Youtube channel and a web site
called ability powered. Throughout my
years of playing world of warcraft I had learned lots of little tips and tricks
to make the game easier for gamers like me to only use a mouse to play. I needed an outlet to share all these tips on
and ability powered born. Since then I
have helped lots of gamers not only in warcraft but in a variety of other names
as well. All my work culminated in
November of 2013 when I was in the world of warcraft documentary.
After a vacation in 2014, actually on the long drive home
from vacation, I couldn’t stop thinking about all these different tips that I
had for other disabled people that had nothing to do with gaming. I thought of different topics I would like to
talk about that did have to do with disabilities but I was not comfortable
putting them on my website that I have worked to build up in the gaming
community. So after much debate I
started this blog.
So what we do find here you may ask? Here you will find a blog about life and all
that goes with it. It may be a Disney
planning pkst. It may be an opinion
about an advocacy topic. It may be a
life hack that I have found to make things easier with my disability. It may be a review about a product or
accessibility at certain locations I traveled to. It may be a recipe or food item I have found
that is easy to swallow since I have issues swallowing some foods. It may be simply lay useless to the majority
of the people who stumbled on this page, but if there’s anything… Even one thing that I can share that makes
life easier for in the one else then it is worth the time it takes to type it
up.
So I hope you find something of use here or are even
entertained for second or two. Either
way welcome to my life: disabled.
