"SON OF A ^!#$@ I FORGOT MY SHAMPOO" Disney World Trip Report 2015 Day 7

January 4, 2015

Hello beautiful!  Finally, we arrived on Disney property.  Tonight we stay at the Art of Animation resort!  Our official Disney stay didn't start until January 5th since that's the first day the winter discount opened.  We were originally planning on staying in Orlando tonight but with New Years over and holiday room rates gone it was actually just as inexpensive to stay at Disney.  Perfect opportunity for me & Mom to check this resort out!

The best part of vacationing in early January is being greeted by sights like this.  Disney and Christmas both have such magic...  having them together is amazing.

We were checking in around lunch so we explored the main building and headed to the food court.  I promised myself we would remember to make pictures of every meal, but hear I am with 0 for this lunch.  I'm assuming everyone was so hungry we just couldn't focus!  After we ate, we headed to our room.

Wow!  I could write a whole post about this room.  Maybe I will someday!  It was perfectly themed for The Little Mermaid.  I mean I have a bubble light on my headboard!  The Art of Animation resort is mostly suites but if you stay in The Little Mermaid section you can get a standard room.

Our package didn't start until tomorrow so no theme parks for us today.  That was fine by us since we really wanted to explore the resort.  There's some amazing photo ops here!

Mom showing off Ariel.  I don't think she can really be considered the LITTLE Mermaid in this situation.  Disney you have amazing resorts!  Me and Feav also walked over to Pop Century food court.  I had read about a must try desert Disney only served there.

Tie Dyed Cheesecake!  I'll be honest.. I'm a cheesecake connoisseur at Disney and I gotta say this was good, but not necessarily better than the other Quick Serve cheesecakes.  It has way more style points but tastes about the same.

Our trip across to Pop Century actually helped me make a sad discovery.  You guys know I'm all about Disney because it's sooooooo wheelchair friendly.  The Pop Century disappointed me.  We went through the big pool area headed to the food court and were met my steps.  We actually had to find the ramp which seemed oddly out of the way.  Another problem we ran into was at the desert line itself.  They had one of those rope dividers up that companies use to form lines but it wasn't wide enough for my chair to go though.  I actually sat to the side while Feav got my cheesecake.  Not cool Disney!  What's up with that Pop Century?

As night closed in we headed to a new place for us.  Downtown Disney!  Hard to believe it took us this long but there's so much to do at Disney that we never had time before.  This trip we scheduled it!

Unfortunately for us we picked the year the Disney Springs construction was underway.  We planned on going to the part called the Marketplace.  Once Upon A Toy, World of Disney, and a lot of other little stores were on that end.  Normally you can park at either end but we were directed to the parking garage at the opposite end of Downtown Disney.  The hike took forever when paired with darkness, crowds, and paths that were narrowed by construction.  I imagine that's what happened to this guy.  He didn't realize the magnitude of the construction either!

We did finally make it and checked out a few stores.  The World of Disney is the largest Disney store.  It had everything including HUGE crowds.  Families, let's talk a minute.  I understand your kid may need a stroller.  I also understand your kid might want out of said stroller while in a huge Disney store.  Please though parents remember it's not okay to pick a walkway to park your stroller in the middle of!  There were so many inconsiderate people and uncontrolled children that we didn't stick around long.

Another store we checked out was Once Upon A Toy.  If you've never been you should definitely check it out.  We went for one thing... Mr. Potato Head parts!  That's right you can fill a box full of Disney Potato Head parts for a flat rate.  It's as many pieces as you can fit in the box so we didn't get a body, just special Disney pieces.  The lady at the checkout even repacked Mom's box so Mom had more space for a few more pieces!  After fighting strollers and getting Potato body parts, the crew was hungry so we went to another "Must Do" according to the forums.

Earl of Sandwich here we come!  Feav had some kind of wrap which he thought was okay but nothing special.  That's not why we were here though!  We were here for this beautiful beast!  The Holiday Turkey Sandwich - Turkey, cornbread stuffing, turkey gravy, cranberry sauce & mayonnaise.  The forums always talk about this so we had to try it.  Mom said it was worth the Downtown Disney trip for!  She absolutely loved it!

After Earl of Sandwich we slowly wandered back toward the parking garage taking pictures and checking out a few stores along the way. We FINALLY got to the van, loaded up, and were heading back to the resort when it happened.  The story inspiring thhe trip report title!

We were driving along... heading to Art of Animation with the windows down.  We stopped at a red light and another car pulled up in the lane by us.  We're waiting on it to change when we heard "SON OF A B#@!*!!!!!!!!!"  We looked at each other like, "Did we just hear that?"  It was followed by "I FORGOT MY SHAMPOO!!!!!!!"  The light changed and we drove away laughing.  I guess someone didn't want to pay Disney prices!

"SON OF A ^!#$@ I FORGOT MY SHAMPOO" Disney World Trip Report 2015 Day 6

January 3, 2015

After almost 30 years we returned to the most magical village you could ever visit.  Give Kids The World Village!  I was one of the first Make-A-Wish kids to stay here.  I won't go much into my original trip, you can read about it here,  This trip was about seeing how much had changed and getting pictures and video for my fundraiser!

The village has grown!  There's sooooo much there now that it didn't even look like the same place I had stayed so many years before!

These are wishing stars that have been added by the kids.  Since I was here before this building was even built, I added mine during our visit.  Each star represents a wish child.

I also rode the carousel which was 100% wheelchair accessible!  Feav was nice enough to ride with me incase I needed any help.  We actually rode twice because it was just that cool.  Wheelchair friendly rides are hard to find so it's a big deal when I find one.

There were a lot of new additions but I was excited to see this classic still there.  I LOVED this Pirate Ship as a kid!  Now it's used as a stage for events and poolside movies.

The village is somewhere everyone wants to be.  This guy was even enjoying his day here!  Just strolling around you could feel the happiness radiating from everyone.  Guests, visitors, and especially the volunteers all had huge smiles.  It was definitely a great place to spend a vacation day.  Afterward we did the Wal-Mart and Target (Starbucks!!!!) runs because tomorrow we head to Disney!  DESTINATION: Art of Annimation

"SON OF A ^!#$@ I FORGOT MY SHAMPOO" Disney World Trip Report 2015 Day 5

January 2, 2015

Here we are!  Disney!  Just kidding!  Mom couldn't resist driving through on our way to Orlando.  Don't worry Mickey, we'll see ya real soon!

The real destination for 2 nights.  We were all just happy to be off the road awhile!  We had dinner reservations but no other plans!

We had free time so we ordered Flippers Pizza and set up the Playstation since we knew we had more free time.  Feav's pizza and Mom's steak & cheese sandwich arrived.  Feav remembers the pizza was amazing fresh but reheating it was not so good.  We spent the afternoon exploring the hotel, playing some games and Mom finally got an afternoon nap!  Good think we rested up because tonight we dine like royalty!

The first of 2 castles we would be visiting this trip.  Medieval Times!  Finally, we made it.  There's a back story here. Way back when I had my Make-A-Wish trip I was given vouchers to eat here as part of the wish trip.  We ran out of time and never had a chance to go.  Actually every trip that we thought about going the same thing happened... no time.  This trip we scheduled a night just for the castle!

Accessibility is odd here and definitely could use updating.  As you can see, we're in a top row of the green section.  (Knight Leon don't let us down!)  To get here required a backstage adventure including an elevator and cutting through the kitchen.  There's just some parts of dinner theater I'd rather miss.

Our seats were amazing, don't get me wrong.  We had a great view of the arena and the actors remembered to interact with our section as well as the main section.  It was just the trek getting there was a little... different.

Hello Santa!..errrr... Kingy!  If you've never been to Medieval Times you might not understand how this place works.  There's a show going on in the arena with royalty, jousting, horses, and sword fighting.  While all this is going on you're having a candlelight dinner including roasted chicken, sweet buttered corn, tomato bisque soup, herb-roasted potato, garlic bread and a pastry.  Sounds delicious and authentic right?  It's definitely authentic because you are served all this with NO utensils!

Feav wasn't excited about this but in the end it wasn't so bad.  Everyone really enjoyed the food.  It was well seasoned and there was plenty to fill your belly.

I also want to brag on this place.  As some of you know, due to my SMA's progression I can't eat many things now.  I was at Medieval Times purely for the show.  I feel kinda jipped at these type places sometimes because I pay the same whether I eat or not.  I knew there was nothing on the menu for me so we told our server I wasn't dining.  I hate wasting food.  Our server actually went above and beyond and made my dinner to go so my family could enjoy it later.  Now that's some royal treatment!

Naturally me and Feav had an amazing time!  The show was amazing and the place was totally themed!  A geeks paradise!

Mom was initially just along for the ride but surprisingly she really enjoyed it!  Obviously her geeky children are rubbing off on her!

The show came to an end and we headed back to the hotel to get some sleep.  Tomorrow we were heading to a very special place.  DESTINATION: Give Kids The World Village

"SON OF A ^!#$@ I FORGOT MY SHAMPOO" Disney World Trip Report 2015 Day 4

January 1, 2015

Today was a big day of driving!  Okay, a long day of driving and pit stops.  We had to make one in Panama to get a few pictures of our favorite spot.  Happy New Year!  The Panama City Beach pier is amazing.  It's accessible and goes way out in the water!  We don't have time to stay though, so on the road again we go!

We decided to drive to Crystal River by driving along the coast instead of I10 which was a great decision.  Yes, it was a bit longer and we had to drive a bit slower but the scenery was completely worth it.  I mean if you're stuck in a vehicle why not see things like...

THIS!  I will admit there were a few spots where the water was so close to the road we were wondering if we would need a boat at some point.  The majority was just beautiful though.  I do have a question for you Florida folks.

Why do you burn your forests?  It appeared to be controlled fires in a few different places along the route we took. I'm sure there are reasons.

After a long travel day, we were pooped.  Home Sweet Home!  Tomorrows destination: Orlando!

"SON OF A ^!#$@ I FORGOT MY SHAMPOO" Disney World Trip Report 2015 Day 3

December 31, 2014

Good morning, Destin!  What a way to start off a new year, right?  It was a chilly day but not cold.  So we headed to the one place a girl who lives in a tiny 1 Wal-Mart town goes to shop when visiting a big city...  Target.  They have Starbucks and that's a luxury we don't have where I'm from.  We picked up a few snacks then went to grab some lunch before heading to the beach.

Not the best picture but recognize those stripes?  MmmmmmmHmmmm Feav's first What-a-Burger!  Seriously, Florida gets all the cool things!  With food in hand, well Starbucks in mine, we head to see the scenery.

Pretty phenomenal scenery.  Unfortunately it was getting chillier too.  We had planned on heading out to enjoy the New Year's Eve fireworks at midnight but it was getting colder and catching a cold before Disney would be disastrous for me so we decided to play it safe.

We headed back to our nice warm hotel room.  I mean you can't complain at all in a hotel like this.  Mom had gotten a new Fitbit for Christmas and she was happy with some free time to try it out and get prepared for Disney.

She headed to the gym.  The gym had these tall windows with a great view!

She could see the ocean while she walked.  Needless to say, she was a pretty happy camper.  Right, Mom?

It was New Year's Eve and cold out so we took the opportunity to check out a Destin favorite.  Thanks Jason for teaching me to use Yelp!

Merlin's had amazing reviews online everywhere I looked.  Finally the moment of truth was upon us!

Verdict is...  it's really good!  Definitely a new Must-Do in Destin! Feav and Mom both enjoyed it.  It was a great finish to 2014!  With full tummies we rang in a new year.

Complete with fireworks from our room!  After that it was bedtime.  Another long drive the next day.  Destination: Crystal River, Florida

"SON OF A ^!#$@ I FORGOT MY SHAMPOO" Disney World Trip Report 2015 Day 2

December 30, 2014

After an early start and a long drive, we were finally reaching Destin!  How much more beautiful could this be?  We would be staying here December 30th and 31st to enjoy some beachfront fireworks for New Year's Eve!  Nice magical appetizer for a Disney trip, eh?

If you travel much you'll notice a trend in our hotel choices by the pictures I post.  We always stay at Hampton Inn.  There's actually a few reasons for this.  1. Mom has AARP discount. SCORE!  Okay, that's not actually the reason but it is a sweet perk!

2. A legitimate reason is when you walk in a room, you smell nothing.  No air freshener.  No flowers. No fabric softener or detergent. No cleaners.  If you have respiratory problems like me, you understand how dangerous being in a room with a trigger is.  At Hampton Inn I've always been safe.

3. The handicapped rooms are wheelchair friendly.  By wheelchair friendly I mean I have space to maneuver around instead of being stuck like a sardine in a tin can.  I've literally almost gotten stuck in hotel rooms before.  ATTENTION HOTELS:  Wheelchair accessible isn't JUST a bigger bathroom in the same square footage.

As much as we love Hampton Inn we did venture out that night for some delicious food.

I look really excited I know.  I really was but obviously headrest hair was getting the best of me.  Hey!  It's a really problem! Despite my headrest hair struggles I was really excited to be heading to Feav's favorite eating place in Destin.

Ahhhh yeah, McGuire's!  I didn't get pictures other than this.  I know... I know... it's a party foul for a trip report.  We got too busy eating.  I do have a story for you though!  The meal was pretty filling so Feav decided to get a brownie ala mode to go.  Our hotel was really close, it was cold outside, and our room had a microwave and refrigerator with a freezer.  So, no big deal.  Our waiter, bless his heart, was so concerned even though we explained this.  He put each component in it's own container then gave Feav proper assembly instructions.  Heat the brownie and sauce separate. Put brownie in a bowl then add the ice cream on it and pour the sauce over everything.  That's when he actually added this tidbit of information with a dead serious expression...  "You need to keep the ice cream cold or it'll melt.  Put it in your freezer."

We headed back to our hotel and explored a bit before bed.  Don't worry, we put the ice cream up first!

It's a beautiful Hampton Inn.  I recommend it!  It even has a roll-in pool!

Exploring was definitely the way to end the day.  Well that and a brownie ala mode.
